Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Resolutions for 2016

nFirrIo

Top Ten Tuesday is a blog meme created and hosted by the wonderful The Broke and the Bookish. Head on over to their blog to join in on the fun or to read other Top Ten Tuesday posts from an amazing collection of blogs that participate. Below you will find my top ten resolutions for this year! These are a mix of bookish resolutions and some not so bookish resolutions!

1) Participate regularly in Top Ten Tuesday: I figured this should be one of my resolutions for my blog. For some reason I end up not posting every Tuesday (or even most Tuesdays) but I find these meme to be so much fun so I need to be better about it. I also just need to participate in more book tags in general.

2) Read more books off my shelf: Throughout the year I have a tendency to sign up for a lot of book tours and I also have a pretty steady flow of review requests coming in. I would like to try to make time to read books that I have purchased for myself and have been gathering dust on my bookshelf for the past couple of years. I also got alot of books for Christmas that I am DYING to read. Right now I’m trying to slowly work my way through a backlog of review requests that I fell behind on due to some crazy life things happening in the past few months but *deep breath* I will get there!

3) Play more video games: In the past few months I have fallen off of playing video games as regularly as I was used to. It’s been awhile since I’ve turned on my xbox to play anything other than Black Ops III. I’m not complaining, I love the game but I am still wanting to play through games like The Witcher and Dragon Age and need to find time to play them as they are also, sitting on a shelf gathering dust and playing games is one of the best joys of my life <3.

4) Eat healthier on my vegan diet: Although being Vegan isn’t just a diet for me  (it’s my complete lifestyle and system of ethics) I would like to eat healthier. Yes, as a vegan you can eat pretty unhealthy. We have our own processed foods, sweets, and junk foods. My first year of being vegan was all about not restricting myself and trying everything. I have had a blast with vegan tacos, cupcakes, etc. etc. I would just like to eat more raw and whole foods. I want to learn more about vegan nutrition and just overall work on my health. My first step to this was purchasing the book How Not To Die by Michael Gregor and Gene Stone. There is an abundance of high cholesterol, diabetes, breast cancer, etc. in my family so I cannot wait to read this book and see what insights it can give me. Hopefully I can get back to my comfortable weight too! This is also includes exercising more so I probably should have just made this resolution title “Get Heathier”. LOL.

5) I’d like to spend more time with my family: I, like everyone else, take it for granted that I have my parents still with me. Recently alot of friends have lost grandparents or parents. We just passed the anniversary of my grandfather’s death last month and it just got me thinking that I need to try to spend more time with my parents. Treasure them and make more memories.

6) I need to get out more: I am pretty much a hermit. LOL. No, really. I love being home with my dog, my books, my blankets and my video games (lately my coloring books). I don’t really get out too often unless I’m visiting family (see above), going to the movies with a few friends or shopping (when I’m not doing online shopping). This really doesn’t happen too often as I am pretty comfortable in my little cocoon but yeah, I rarely see the light of day these days. I work at home so it’s really easy to not leave the house. I need to better about that because I do feel like I am missing life sometimes, although I do love my life now. I feel like maybe I’m missing other’s lives, if that makes any sense. I have pretty severe social anxiety so yeah, I need to work on that. I wasn’t always that way so 2016 will be the year.

7) I want to volunteer more: The last time I volunteered was last thanksgiving at an animal sanctuary and though the work was hard, I loved it so much. I would like to do more of that once my toes heals as they are still healing from an injury from a few months ago. I’d like to volunteer there regularly and help the animals. I love animals.

8) Get published: This is probably one of the most important resolutions for me this year. I wrote a short novel during NaNoWriMo and am going to begin adding to it and then will enter my first phase of editing. I am also working on a poetry collection that I started a few years ago but never finished. I’d like to publish these two works this year (self publish). My poor mother keeps begging me to and she jokingly (and not so jokingly) keeps telling me to publish before she dies. She’s crazy but yes, I am aiming to do just that this year.

9) Pay off debt: Student loans and credit cards. Need I say more?

10) Finish my Master’s Thesis and ultimately, finish grad school: 2016 WILL be the year I graduate grad school. I AM SO EXCITED! I’m a lifelong learner so I will probably go back to school after that. Why do I do this to myself?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my Top Ten Resolutions of this year! I would love to hear what yours are! I am wishing all of you a wonderful 2016 full of love, laughter, and many blessings! Oh yeah and if you haven’t had the chance to check it out, I just uploaded a bunch of comic con/cosplay pics on a separate page in the menu!

Happy reading everyone!

My Top Ten Most Anticipated Book Releases For the Rest of 2015!!

nFirrIo

Today is Tuesday!! I’m not really THAT excited because it means there’s still alot of time left in my work week! But we’ll get there!

I haven’t participated in a Top Ten Tuesday post in forever and it’s really a shame that I haven’t because I do find those posts to be really fun to both participate in by posting and also fun to read. I decided I am going to be better at participating although this week I am posting a little late. I’m pet sitting (and I already have one dog) so my week has been kind of thrown off kilter as they require constant supervision together. Anyway, I’m super excited to post on this weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic which is my Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the Rest of 2015!! If you would like to join in on the fun by posting or reading more posts head on over to The Broke and the Bookish !

So there ya have it!! Those are my top ten most anticipated reads for the rest of this year. There are ALOT more that I am actually looking forward to but I was able to narrow it down to these ten, which was quite a feat. If you have any recommendations on what to be looking forward to for the rest of this year and even into 2016 please leave me a comment and let me know!! What are you looking forward to?

Top Ten Tuesday: The Top Ten 2014 debuts I am most excited for!

This week’s Top 10 Tuesday theme, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is the Top Ten 2014 Debut’s I’m excited for! I have been creeping on catalogs, blogs and lists for awhile and these are the ten that have most captured my eye, my mind and my curiosity! This list does include a few that have been published this month and also some that will be published in a few days but I still wanted to include them since they were published in 2014 and because I NEED to read them. Hopefully this list introduces you to a book that you may want to read!! (Descriptions from Goodreads)

Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Most Intimidating Books

Due to time constraints (mostly because of school) I hadn’t been able to participate in TTT in a few weeks, sorry! Top Ten Tuesday is the weekly meme hosted by the wonderful blog The Broke and the Bookish. Each weekly list has a specific theme and each blogger posts their lists and also links back to the hosting blog! This weeks theme is THE TOP TEN MOST INTIMIDATING BOOKS!

I hope you enjoy my intimidating books, this includes some that I have already read and some that are still on my reading list, as well as a few that I consider my most favorite books of all times…I have them on bookshelf and I so treasure them (namely the Poetic Edda, Mists of Avalon,Orlando,  the, Guns Germs and Steel,  Faerie Queene and Eros the Bittersweet!) Check them out!

Top Ten Tuesday – Books that feature travel in some way!

Top Ten Tuesday is the weekly meme hosted by the wonderful blog The Broke and the Bookish. Each weekly list has a specific theme and each blogger posts their lists and also links back to the hosting blog! This weeks theme is
Top Ten Books featuring Travel in some way ((road trips, airplanes, travelogues, anything where there is traveling in the book!)

Btw, I’m pulling these from books I’ve read recently with travelling in them and then some oldies!

1) The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight – Jennifer E. Smith (Hadley and Oliver meet in an airport and fly to the same place, where they meet again (duh!). Plus I also like that in the cover they are in an busy airport but everything is out of focus except them.) Sigh!

2) The Fault in our Stars – John Greene (Hazel and Augustus go to Amsterdam to meet the author of Hazel’s favorite book! This trip has some very memorable moments, especially when they are having dinner! One of my favorite scenes in the book, especially when the waiter starts talking about the bubbly!)

3) A Game of Thrones – George R. R. Martin (I really could have put any Game of Thrones book I’ve read so far in this list since there is a TON of travelling done in these books, of course it’s either by horseback or walking!)

4) Ghost Planet – Sharon Lynn Fisher (Interplanetary travel, sweet!!! Except travelling doesn’t bode well for our main character but without that we wouldn’t have the story either! I’m always up for some good space travel)

5) Kindred – Octavia E. Butler (time travel!!!)

6) Eat, Pray, Love – Elizabeth Gilbert (Years after I read it, I am still in love with this book! So much travelling done in this book and it’s all so awesome!! If you haven’t read it, you need to!!)

7) Water for Elephants – Sara Gruen (Who hasn’t dreamed of travelling with the circus??)

8) The Lucky One – Nicolas Sparks (Logan travels on foot to find Elizabeth…sigh!)

9) The People of the Book – Geraldine Brooks ( I may be reaching a little bit on this one but this book is all about how one very special, illuminated book travels from place to place and how it got to where it is now and in the condition it is in now! One of my FAVORITE books!)

10) Catching Fire – Suzanne Collins (The Victory Tour…enough said!)

Well, there it is!! Hope you liked my Top Ten Tuesday list this week!!

Top Ten Tuesday – Freebie!

I’m late on my Top Ten Tuesday post I know but better late than  never right? So Top Ten Tuesday is the weekly meme hosted by the wonderful blog The Broke and the Bookish. Each weekly list has a specific theme and each blogger posts their lists and also links back to the hosting blog! This weeks theme is a freebie which means bloggers can basically list any top ten items of their choosing. I am not very creative so I’m going to go with one of the themes suggested at the Broke and the Bookish which is My top ten favorite paranormal creatures in books!

1) Dragons! I would have to say that Dragons are my most favorite, I love everything Dragons!
2) Vampires…because they are sexy and I totally want to be one…especially if they are Vampires in Anne Rice’s world. I love me some Anne Rice Vampires.
3) Witches…who hasn’t wanted to be a witch at one point in their lives?
4) Fairies! There was a point in my teenage years where I was obsessed with the Fae and convinced they were real…who am I kidding? I’m still convinced.
5) Werewolves, I love me a good werewolf! There are a few werewolf books I’ve read that are just intoxicating like Blood and Chocolate!
6) Incubus/Succubus – although real life scenarios are pretty freaky, I think stories involving these can be H-O-T Hot!
7) Nephilim – I only recently started reading books with Nephilim in them like the Cassandra Clare books and I must say I really enjoy reading about the Nephilim and want to sink my teeth into every book I encounter that has them in it.
8) Elves. Elves to me are just pure magic, I love them. I want to meet them, I want to be one…enough said.
9) This might be a weird one and one I doubt anyone else mentions on their lists but…Gargoyles!! Do you remember when that cartoon came out years and years ago? I was obsessed. So whenever they are mentioned in books even if it’s just to reference a statue at some dark, haunted mansion I am over the edge!
10) and lastly, Zombies! There is a plethora of really great literature about Zombies recently and I love that! They are so scary but also so freakishly cool. It’s like I’m fascinated by them but I also just want to kill them. lol which is why I’m glad there are so many great video games where I can do just that.

So that concludes my TTT list for today. Sorry I posted it so late but I will definitely make a point to not go so sidetracked on Tuesdays!! Let me know what your favorite Paranormal Creature is and why! Like I said Dragons are my ultimate favorite, I can’t get enough of them! Happy reading!!

Top Ten Favorite Covers of Books I’ve Read

This is my first post as part of the weekly meme hosted by the wonderful blog The Broke and the Bookish. Each weekly list has a specific theme and each blogger posts their lists and also links back to the hosting blog! This weeks list theme is…drumroll please…Top Ten Favorite Covers from Books I’ve Read.

We always say, don’t judge a book by its cover…but  it’s really hard to not see a pretty cover and get the book! I don’t know about you but I must admit (somewhat guiltily) that I love me some pretty book covers! There is just something about a really awesome book cover that just draws me in even though I know that an awesome book cover does not make an awesome book. This list is by no means exhaustive as I have MANY favorite covers but these are just the ones that come to mind right away, neither is it in any particular order! I am ignoring content for this list and am going to include some books that I didn’t really like (shocking!) but without further ado, here are my top ten favorite covers from books I’ve read…I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed picking them! If you are looking at this in blog view please click on the blog title to go to the full post!
