May Book Haul!!

Book Haul

Hello everyone! I am super late in showing you my May book haul but June has already been crazy. This is probably due to the fact that I leave for vacation tomorrow so I’m throwing this blog up pretty early in the morning. I have to wake up in four hours…eek!!! I’ll also be hopefully posting a blog on the books I took on vacation with me (let’s be real, I really wanted to take fifty and it was super hard to limit myself. A girl needs options!). Without further ado, here are the books that I added to my personal collection in May!

I feel like every month and I tell myself I won’t buy any books but then I end up buying a million. It’s a struggle guys, it really is. I’ve already bought some books in June and I keep finding myself eyeing Book Outlet every couple of days.

Amazon Purchases
Star Wars: Rebel Rising  by Beth Revis
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornoll
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Never Ending Story by Michael Ende
The Dark Tower Series 1-6 by Stephen King
Stone Mattress: Nine Wicked Tales by Margaret Atwood

Book Outlet Purchases
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Circle by Dave Eggers
Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne
Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay
Night of the Animals by Bill Broun
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story by Alexander Freed
Sabriel by Garth Nix
The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

All of these books I bought either on Amazon or on BookOutlet. I have already read Brave New World, I read it during the first week of June and I enjoyed it. It was my first time reading it. I also have read Sabriel in the past, I read it in high school and I absolutely loved it. It’s definitely one of my favorite fantasy series and if you love fantasy and haven’t read it, I totally recommend it. I read it in these chunky mass market paperback versions so I have been re-buying them in the nicer, less chunky up to date floppy paperbacks and they’re gorgeous. I can’t wait to reread them! I’d have to say that I am most excited to read Under Rose Tainted Skies. I believe it has a main character that deals with agoraphobia which is something that I also deal with so that just made me instantly curious as to how I am going to feel about the book. Hopefully I’ll be able to get to it soon!

Oh and I also won TWO books this month which is big for me because I have never won anything in my life!

Maria Murnane, author of Bridges and Wait for the Rain had a facebook launch party for the release of Bridges and I won a copy of her book Cassidy Lane! To win it I had to post a picture of something near me that was black and I posted a picture of my Darth Vader phone case and Maria picked my picture to win! Awesome, can’t wait to read it.

18706037

Read it Forward also held a contest and I sent in an entry online just for kicks because I was sure that I wouldn’t win but I DID!!! I won Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray, which I needed since I mentioned in my previous book haul that I am (shamelessly) hoarding the Star Wars books so I can just burn through them! I am SO excited to have this book!! I can’t tell you how many times I have added it to my cart and not purchased it but now I have it! Yay!

So yeah! I wanted to post this before I left for vacay. I am going to try to post a blog about the books I took with me on vacation, hopefully I can read all of them. I’d be happy if I read half. I’m taking a few books and some graphic novels that I have been DYING to read. I have a ten hour drive in which I will be doing none of the driving so I’ll be able to hopefully slam out some wonderful books. I have been looking forward to reading all of them and I can’t wait to show them to you as well. I hope everyone has had a great beginning of June so far!

Happy Reading everyone!

Blog Tour Book Review: The Raven Room by Ana Medeiros

The Raven Room COVERAbout The Raven Room

• Paperback: 250 pages
Publisher: Diversion Publishing (November 3, 2015)

A searing erotic thriller perfect for those tantalized by A.R. Torre’s Deanna Madden series…

Anything you can imagine. Everything you crave. For the members of The Raven Room, it’s every fantasy fulfilled. But for some, that desire is a matter of life and death.

Drawn by needs he cannot control, Julian ventures to The Raven Room, a secret and exclusive sex club in the underbelly of Chicago. It goes beyond sex. It goes beyond kink. The Raven Room is the only place where Julian finds release from the dangerous urges that threaten to destroy the successful life he’s worked so hard to build.

When the police link the Raven Room to the death of a young woman, it threatens to expose a number of powerful people—people who would kill to stay anonymous…

Meredith’s body can’t get enough of Julian. He has opened her sexual horizons to tempting new possibilities. But out of bed she’s an aspiring journalist, and The Raven Room is the story she’s been looking for. By writing an exposé on the club and its elite clientele, she plans to launch her career.

As Meredith embarks on a sexual journey into the forbidden world that Julian inhabits, questions emerge, and dark appetites threaten to swallow her whole.  How much can she trust the man who has laid bare her erotic nature and how much will she sacrifice in order to protect him?

Happy Monday everyone and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Raven Room by Ana Medeiros! Thank you to the author and TLC Book Tours for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

The Raven Room is an erotic thriller told in alternating third person perspectives about an aspiring journalist in the midst of a sexual awakening, a sexy psychologist with a troubled past that still haunts him, and a murder that threatens to expose the seedy goings on at The Raven Room – a club dedicated to the dark, sexual inclinations of the elite.

I loved this book. This year I haven’t read many erotic novels so I think reading this type of story was just what I needed at this point in time. Overall it took my about a day to read it but I think if I didn’t have work I would have probably read it in a few hours as I found it quite hard to put down. I really enjoyed the psychology of the characters in this book, the conundrum of the Julian as a troubled man who happens to be a psychologist was interesting to me and the dynamic of his relationship with Meredith was also captivating. I just loved getting to know more about them as the story unfolded.  I must also pay homage to the gorgeous cover! Isn’t it beautiful?  I am also super excited that there are going to be more books in this series! Yes!

I went into this book without many expectations or really any idea of what the story was going to be about, though judging by the cover I knew it was going to maybe be dark and a little romantic. It proved to be dark, sexy and dangerous. I loved the descriptions of The Raven Room, when I was reading about it, it was almost like I could imagine myself there. I love the description of the distinct smell, of the walls that appeared to be breathing…the dark corners, the red lights…need I say more?

I have never read an erotic thriller and I must say that I definitely enjoyed that fusion of two genres that I really enjoy. I would be up for reading more books like this and also more from this author. Five stars from me and a whole lot of sexy!

Lost Blurb:

One…Two…Three…Breathe

There is no other choice

You know what you have to do

Don’t think, Bre, just go

I begin to take my final step forward, feeling the urgency of what I know I should do, but I immediately think of who I will be leaving behind. If I go I won’t be able to say goodbye. I won’t be able to tell him that I love him. I want to tell him that I’m sorry for what’s going to happen to me, and beg him to forgive me for what I’m about to do.

Tears begin to filter from my eyes as I realize there is no other choice. Perhaps I will finally know why I have been given this gift of seeing into the future.

Accepting that this is my lot—my final end—I take a deep breath and run to the boy. As I do, I block out everything and everyone that I love far from my mind.

Time has run out for me.

Don’t think, Bre, just go.

Lost, the electrifying sequel to The Awaken series, will draw you deeper into the world that Bre is beginning to unfold. This riveting novel will prove that true love comes in many forms, that deception is all around us, that the secrets of our opposers are often hidden in plain sight, and that the world in which we dwell holds more than what we see on the surface.

Blog Tour Book Review: Awaken by Jamie Guerard!

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Three things run through my mind at this very moment…
ONE, my life as I once knew it will never be the same.
TWO, the person I’m in love with might not even exist.
THREE, the deception that has unfolded before me has the power of life and death.
Sixteen year old, Breanna Davis, has heard the saying; life isn’t always what it seems…well, that saying rings true now more than ever. As horrifying visions appear before her, revealing tragedies that will forever change the fate of those she loves, she realizes that she may be the only person who can stop them from becoming reality.
Amongst the chaos of this new discovery, Bre is faced with a stranger, Eve, who moves in on Bre’s friends and begins to follow her every move. As Eve’s true motives begin to surface, Bre must fight against, not only the visions, but the dangers Eve holds close.
There is another secret kept- Collin, a boy held captive in Bre’s dreams, the boy she is secretly falling in love with but isn’t sure he even exists. As she tries to make it work with Austin, an old friend who could possibly be more, Bre battles against her feelings for Collin.
Bre is faced with an almost impossible decision, to choose her life or follow her destiny. If she doesn’t intercede, people will certainly die. If she does, her own life could be at stake. In the end, if she fails, she’ll lose everything.

Hello all! Welcome to my stop on the Awaken by Jamie Guerard Blog Tour! I am really  happy to have been able to take part in this blog tour and would like to thank both Jamie Guerard and Shane Morgan for allowing me to be part of it!

I loved Awaken! I was really excited to read it because the synopsis just sounded so different from anything I’ve read lately (plus I love me some good YA books!).

One of the things that first captured me about the story was the main character Bre (super cute name by the way). I really liked her as a character right from the start. She is one of those great characters that you instantly like and is very relatable and real. I think this is really great because it made me feel like I was experiencing this story as Breanna and not just reading it from the outside looking in which is something that not every author can do so it’s great when I find a book that is like that.

The story itself was awesome. There is so much going on and so many different aspects to the story that it never fails to be interesting. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book and once I got reading it was really hard to put this book down because I just had to know what happened next. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book that makes it really stand out in a crowd is that it is NEVER predictable which is awesome!

I love also the romantic elements in the story and how well they are worked into the main plot. As a reader, I just felt so torn along with Bre. Sometimes when there is a love triangle I am just so sure of who I want the character to pick and I think Bre has some really great choices so I hurt alongside her which is really surprising in a good way! One thing I liked looking into during my read of this book were the relationships. I think the relationship dynamics between characters are so interesting in this book! Not only the love triangle aspect of it (which is super interesting and had me just swooning, heartbroken and happy at different moments of the story) but also to the mother/daughter, father/daughter, best friends and frenemy relationships too it was all so interesting.

The story just flows really nicely and the timing of it is perfect. It’s not a light read, I consider a light read to be under 200ish pages and Awaken sits at over 300 which is great for this book. It’s definitely a good thing because it’s so interesting and once again, the pacing is perfect. Sometimes when I am reading a long book that I’m not super invested in I catch myself looking forward to the ending (which is not too often but it does happen) and I NEVER once caught myself doing this during Awaken.

I have some unanswered questions about the story but I’m sure it was designed this way because yes everyone this is the first book in a series, yay! This is one of the books where I don’t mind at all about having unresolved questions because the story is so good and we are promised more story especially with that awesome ending! The ending is a total cliffhanger which if you’re already at the edge of your seat you will absolutely fall over! It was brilliant and the ending was crazy!!!

Lastly, I did want to mention the cover because I love the cover to Awaken. I think this cover is just so perfect for the book. I especially love that it shows the roman numerals around her pupil illustrating the race against time which is so exciting and heart pumping in the book. The color scheme is really beautiful as well with the contrast of colors, the brightness of the yellow against the muted colors is shocking and breathtaking. Definitely an attention catcher!

I, like I’m sure most of you will also, will definitely be waiting to read the second book because I absolutely need to know what happens next! I gave Awaken a 5 out of 5 rating because that’s how much I enjoyed the story and how much it kept me interested in the story from the very first page to the very last sentence. This is definitely a great read and I recommend picking it up especially for fans of YA Paranormal!

Favorite Quote from Awaken: “He was like an addiction to sweets; no matter how bad they were for me or how hard I tried to stop eating them, the craving returned, that much stronger, overriding all sense of reasoning and will.” H-O-T, hot!
