Hello all and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for A New World by Rich Douglas. I’d like to send a really big thank you to Ravenswood Publishing and the author for giving me the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the second book in the Vampire World series and also the second book that I have read from this author. I was definitely excited to have the opportunity to continue the series as I really enjoyed reading the first book, Vampire World. If you would like to see my review for that particular book, you can check it here: Vampire World.
A New World brings back the main character Janice, whom is also our protagonist in the first book of the series. It picks up right where the first book left off and with Janice and the other vampires she was fighting alongside jumping through a portal. The portal has brought Janice back to earth and although, she is excited to be back, everything feels different now that she’s a vampire. Plus, the threat of Trifang still hangs over her head.
I ended up liking this book although I definitely didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book. I felt like the first book was pretty exciting from the get go. It took me a lot longer to get into this book but when I did get into it, I found it to be entertaining and a fun read. I love vampires so jumping back into this series was pretty fun for me, I had always wanted to see how the story continued and it was pretty interesting to see the vampires and how they acclimate themselves into our world.
I am still not sure whether I enjoy Janice as the main character. It started that way for me with the first book as well; I didn’t care for her at the beginning but as the story progressed, I started liking her and enjoying her character and her mannerisms more and more. I really enjoyed the love triangle aspect of this book. There also was always this sense of danger hanging over everyone and think that both of those things made everything so much more exciting. It definitely was interesting to compare and contrast Janice and Marissa’s lives in the two different world and interesting to see Janice come to terms with who she is now, as well as who she was before she ended up in Vampire World. I do have to say though, that I do enjoy Vampire World so much more than Earth.
I do also have to say that I found the new monsters in this book to be really intriguing and the fight scenes with TriFang never let me down. If you are into YA paranormal I would say to check this series out but I do have to warn you that you will not want to just pick up at book two, you definitely need to read book one or you will be so confused. It’s been awhile since I read book one and it was a little hard for me to remember everything that happened but allusions to the story at the beginning of this book triggered my memory after awhile. I gave this book three stars because I liked it, I gave the first book four stars because I loved it and the second book just felt a little bit short of how much I enjoyed the first. Worth checking out though!
Happy Reading everyone!
