Rating – 5/5, sooooooooo good!
In the distant future, water is more valuable than gold, and the very fabric of reality has been damaged.
This bleak world is foreign to fifteen-year-old Ethan Denby. He isn’t from this time, and even his body belongs to someone else.
In a desperate attempt to return home, Ethan has killed a high-ranking government official. Now there’s blood on his hands and a bounty on his head. As an army of mercenaries hunts Ethan and his companions, he turns to the only source of answers he has left: a book containing dark power that threatens to consume anyone who reads it.
The Hunted is a wild post-apocalyptic adventure, equal parts Dark Tower and Pirates of the Caribbean. It is the second book in The Marian Trilogy.
Good morning everyone and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Hunted, book two of The Marian trilogy!
I am super excited to share this review with you today because this is a series I love AND because this is the second book in the series that I am reviewing! You can check out that review by clicking here: The Marian. (There is also an awesome cast on this link that was chosen by the author and they are really just perfect!)
I am so glad that I had the chance to live in the world of The Marian again. The state of the world itself in this series was intriguing to me from the start. This series takes place in a post apocalyptic world (and we all know how much I love a post apocalyptic world) where water is scarce. Ethan, a young boy from a different reality, wakes up in someone else’s body aboard the The Marian, a “pirate” ship that travels the land illegally harvesting water and giving it to people who need it, rebelling against the mega corporation HydroSystems Worldwide who “owns” and “distributes” water.
Since The Hunted is not out yet I don’t want to give away too much about the plot or specific events in the book, so I promise I won’t spoil you! The description I gave in the paragraph above is really just the tip of the iceberg, this story is really so much more than that. One of my most favorite things about this series is the cast of characters, this is as true of The Hunted as it was for The Marian. It has been awhile since I read the first book so I really appreciated the recap of characters at the beginning of the book which reminded me not only of the characters but about the overall background story as well. I do have to say that my absolute favorite part of this book was the introduction of the character of Scarlet. I absolutely adore her, she is this super kickass mercenary who can not only keep up with the men in her field but is often far more deadly. Her character is interesting to me as she is absolutely lethal but also amazingly noble and also a little conflicted. I love her. I found that this book was particularly fast paced which made it a super fun, fast read for me. I literally read this book in a day because it was hard to put down and I just love this world. It’s a totally satisfying sequel that still left me wanting more.
It was an exciting and dangerous romp through the wastelands of this post apocalyptic world where the crew of the Marian, Ethan in particular, is in a race for their very lives. Just like the first book, I flew through it and loved every minute of it. It’s always interesting to see what situations the crew of the Marian find themselves in. Always interesting! If you are a Sci Fi, Steampunk, or Post Apocalyptic fan, you will definitely find The Hunted enjoyable! Check out both books in this series for a fun, interesting and entertaining read! Please come back and let me know in the comments your thoughts on this book, it releases on the 17th of this month!
I’d like to give a BIG thank you to the author Taylor Hohulin for contacting me about the tour and giving me the chance to read and review both of these awesome books! I can’t wait for the third! I don’t even want to say goodbye to these characters!
Also, how cool is this book cover?!
Taylor is one-half of the morning show on a Christian rock radio station based in Dallas, Texas. He spends half of his work day talking about robots, rock and roll, and Jesus, and the other half expanding his already encyclopedic knowledge of puns, viral videos, and Christian music. He lives in Arlington with his wife, where they are owned by two cats and a dog.
