Going back to my post a few days ago about my not liking Audio Books…well I finally found one that I like. Score! Since I took my Media for Children class this past semester I’ve been exploring the UBER fun world of Children’s literature. I am more than grateful to this class for giving me the opportunity to test these waters, I’ve not really taken the time to explore these waters prior to this class. One of the books I have on my to-read children’s book list is The Land of Stories (Volume 1) written by Chris Colfer. Chris Colfer plays Kurt in Glee, whom I absolutely adore. It’s also one of my favorite Television shows (of which I have many!). I saw this book being offered as an audiobook so I decided to go ahead and purchase it ( I plan on purchasing the physical book at a later date). I love it. There is something so different about the way Chris Colfer reads this book than the previous audiobook experiences I have had. Maybe it’s because its wasn’t being read by a third party but the actual author who gave birth to the story and has a deep connection with it, or maybe it’s because Colfer is an experienced actor with a wonderful voice. Or maybe it’s just the synthesis of both.
I have (more than) a few goals for 2013. I know every year we make these wonderful resolutions and swear, albeit intoxicated with expensive champagne, to keep them. I want to ensure that 2013 is different this time. I think my goals for this year are difficult but attainable and can come to fruition through hard work. That’s just it…I’m going to need to put in work. I want to become a healthier me this year. I have 20+ pounds to lose in order to do that and this year I will do it. I need to do it for myself, for my health and to live a fuller life devoid of the sicknesses that run rampant in my family like diabetes and high blood pressure. I also want to cut a chunk of my debt. Although school loan debt cannot be erased for me in a single year, I want to wipe out most if not all of my credit card debt. Those are my two big goals. The smaller goal I have is going to be the 2013 Goodreads Reading Challenge. I plan on committing to 125 books. We’ll see if I can do it. I think 2013 is going to be great. I can’t wait for the first semester of Grad school to start. Even though I feel like I am so late in coming to the realization of what I really want to do for the rest of my life, I just feel fortunate to finally be in the right place, to finally feel like I’m on the road to doing what I am supposed to be doing. Cheesy, I know. I am not a Librarian yet and I don’t claim to be but I do like following Librarian blogs and news, etc. I have a lot to learn and this helps me immensely. How better to learn Library Science than from those that practice it everyday?
My New Years was pretty quiet. I worked a few hours of overtime today and then saw my folks for about an hour and then came home to try to comfort my pretty little puppy since she’s super scared of fireworks. She was all shaking and hiding under my desk when I was working. L Anyway, how many of you are gearing up for your 2013 Goodreads Reading Challenge? I am so excited. I hope to have my first book of 2013 read by tomorrow afternoon. I’m not sure yet what my second book of 2013 is going to be. I’m working on a tentative list of the books I am going to read. I’m toying with the idea of putting them in some desired order or whether I’m going to make a list and pick them at random. I am super happy I have the day off tomorrow. It’s only the beginning of the week and already I feel drained, ahhh.
I hope all of you have a Happy New Year!! 2012 was definitely one for the books. At the very beginning of 2012 we were blessed to move into our new home. I’m expecting great things from 2013!
